I am Audrey Matthews, currently a Senior Climate Planner at Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District [SRPEDD] in Taunton, MA, and the Head Juniors Rowing Coach at East Bay Rowing in Barrington, RI. My planning work revolves around energy policy and planning, climate mitigation and adaptation, and resilience creation socially and ecologically. More on my rowing position is below.
I moved to the Ocean State in 2024 for my position as Senior Climate Planner, focusing on reducing our carbon emissions through multiple programs developed through the State of Massachusetts. My favorite projects with SRPEDD include work on the Comprehensive Climate Action plan with the Climate Pollution Reduction Grant for the Providence-Warwick MSA; creating an energy collective for all of our municipalities in Southeastern Massachusetts to connect ideas, people, and processes; and stormwater pollution interventions through both scientific water quality testing and social resilience priorities to create green infrastructure projects in coastal areas.
I am a graduate of the University of Texas in the Masters of Community and Regional Planning / Masters of Sustainable Design dual degree as of August 2023. My focus has been on environmental planning and the connection to sustainable building practices. My thesis on the Sustainability Policy Effects on Maintenance Capacities can be found here. My undergraduate degree was from the University of Florida in Sustainability and the Built Environment. I have worked as a teaching assistant for Sustainable Land Use Planning for the past two years, and just completed my thesis on Facility Maintenance Management with Climate Change Adaptations, here. I am currently looking for a job in sustainable or environmental planning, environmental analysis, or sustainable building. For hobbies, I like to row, hike with my dog, and explore public art.
